Yankee Candle Company Got Its Beginnings in a Basement, and Your Candle Business Could Do the Same!

Years ago in South Hadley, Massachusetts, young Mike Kittredge made a candle out of his melted crayons as a Christmas present for his mom. He kept on experimenting with candlemaking, and thus the Yankee Candle Company was born.

Yankee isn’t the only candle company to start with experimenting at home – Illume Candles did, among others, and yours can too. Now it’s easier than ever to enjoy making candles on your own, since there are a huge variety of candle supplies available online and waiting to be delivered to your door.

Even if you don’t have grandiose plans for your handmade candles, experimenting can be fun and your candles can make a nice homemade gift come holiday time. This is exactly what I did, I mixed scents, made layered jar candles, switched between using paraffin wax and soy wax, and when I got them to my liking, I gave them away as gifts. It was truly fun, and really nice to make gifts for a change. So whether you’re thinking of making candles as a business, or just for fun, there’s lots of potential in this fun craft!
