Why use Organic Candles?
Candles have been used for centuries to brighten up a room or an area. The first candles were made from animal fat and consequently, the candles now are paraffin candles. Paraffin candles can emit carcinogens and other toxins that are not good for people’s health. They also create soot, which not only blackens areas around the candle, but can contain components which are dangerous to our health as well.
Some Organic Candles
During the past couple of decades, people have started experimenting with natural soy as something to use as wax for candles instead of paraffin. Paraffin emits toluene, benzene and formaldehyde when burned. These are dangerous components to have in the house because they can cause some types of sickness. Organic candles, like the ones that use soybean wax, do not emit these potentially harmful products and is also a sustainable resource which is organic and biodegradable.
When people refer to organic candles, this should mean that the components and ingredients present in the candle are composed entirely of organic materials. Some manufacturers of so-called organic candles mix the soy bean wax or beeswax with paraffin wax to lessen the cost of producing the candles. These are technically not organic candles because they are not comprised of 100% organic materials.
Another type of organic candles is those made from beeswax. Beeswax is taken from the hives of bees and made into organic candles. These candles do not usually drip as much as paraffin, and emit less smoke than paraffin candles. Beeswax has been around for many decades already, and it has been used for many things including candle-making.
Organic candles are now very popular with the organic food craze. People are trying their best to be healthy and live cleanly. Part of the appeal of organic candles is the fact that these types of products do not harm the environment and are made from organic materials or components which are biodegradable. People who are very aware of their environment and wish to make it a better place will opt to buy organic food and even organic candles to make a difference in the world.
Individuals must be careful in handling burning candles, because the flame and the melted wax can cause burns on skin and also cause fires. It does not matter if it is an ordinary candle or organic candle; as long as it has a flame, it can cause damage to people and property if handled irresponsibly. Do not leave a burning candle unsupervised because accidents may happen. However, when used properly, candles can bring a warm ambiance to any room, and scented candles can offer a dose of aromatherapy as well.
