How to Make Dried Flower Candles
Candles now come in a variety of shapes, colors and sizes. You can add to these beautiful candles by making your very own pressed dried flower candles. These types of do-it-yourself candles are really fun to make and you can express your artistic notions in this very simple way. They also make very nice gifts for special people who love unique candles.
Steps to Make Dried Flower Candles
First you will need scissors, a pencil, several pieces of white paper, a ruler, a double boiler, a hair dryer, a large candle (your choice of color), a white candle, a paint brush (about 1 – 2 inches size), and several pressed flowers (the size will depend on the size of the candle you are placing them on), petals or leaves. These are all of the components you will need to make your dried flower candles.
First, you will need to measure the length and width of your soon-to-be dried flower candles by using one of the pieces of paper. Mark the length and width on the paper. Trim the paper to cover the candle’s circumference completely, making sure that there are no overlapping edges.
Place the trimmed paper on a flat surface and arrange the pressed flowers, petals and leaves on it. This will be the design of the dried flower candles that you will make. Try not to make too many corrections to your original design, since overheating the candles will cause them to lose shape.
Heat one part of the candle that you wish to place a design on, and when the wax is slightly melted, stick the pressed flowers directly onto the candle. Do this repeatedly until your whole design is integrated onto the large candle. You can also roll your candle on a piece of paper to make sure the pressed items are stuck well into it.
Next, you will break up the white candle into smaller pieces for better melting in the double boiler. Once the wax has liquefied, take it off the double boiler to avoid accidents, dip the paintbrush into it and brush it over the dried flower candles you have just made. You must work speedily to utilize the melted wax.
It is better to leave the dried flower candles standing while you are brushing them and drying them so that they will not be disturbed. Try no to touch them too much because you could leave fingerprints or marks on your candles. Let the dried flower candles sit undisturbed for over ten minutes before you try to touch them. The end result will be beautifully embellished candles that you can enjoy yourself or give to a friend.
