Candlemaking Can Make for an Enjoyable and Rewarding Hobby
A few years ago my husband suggested I dabble in candlemaking, I have to admit, that although I loved buying and burning my favorite candles, I wasn’t too keen on the idea of making them myself. It sounded a little too ‘crafty’ for me. But he convinced me in the end, and am I grateful… it was only the beginning.
First I played around with paraffin wax candles, then with soy wax. I liked how soy wax cleaned up so well, as well as the natural benefits it had – like being healthier to burn, but I also liked the hardness of paraffin wax. See, I was experimenting with different scents, and realized I could add more oil to the paraffin ones, because adding too much to the soy ones would just make them mushy.
After I had found some scents that I really liked, I started playing with making my own triple scented jar candles, the possibilities were endless! And before I knew it, I literally had hundreds of candles lying around the house from all of my experience. So… Christmas was taken care of – homemade triple scented jar candles seemed to make for delightful gifts.
What I realized was that with a few candle making supplies and a little time, one could embark on a fun (and addictive) hobby and also end up with some lovely candles to enjoy or to give away.
