With so many candle making supplies available online, it makes it all the easier to make those perfect candles. You can choose from a slew of scents, a palette of candle dyes, and lots of differents shapes and sizes.
Different waxes are also readily availabe; you might want to start with paraffin wax out of sheer familiarity since it's the wax used in most candles, or maybe you want to take a more natural route to candle making and use beeswax or soy wax. Soy wax is becoming more widely renowned for its clean qualities, it is said to produce less soot and clean up with soap and water.
When shopping for candle supplies, it might be handy for beginners to keep in mind that there are a few essentials in most candle making: a melter (to melt your wax in - you will place this in a pot of water on a stove, so that the wax is heated in a double boiler, never place a pan of wax on a hot burner - it will ruin the wax), thermometer, wax, fragrance, dye, wicks, and either a container or a mold.
When you get more serious about it, you might want to look into the different additives available and their effects, so you can experiment with different textures, etc., some of these will enable you to make extra smooth candles or ones with a special crackly look.
