The Environmentally Friendly Beeswax Candles
Beeswax is an odorless substance secreted by the honeybees. Although many uses of beeswax were quite popular in early Egyptian civilization and in the pockets of Mediterranean countries, it was only in the middle age when the beeswax candles were introduced and became an instant hit among the upper rungs of the society.
As opposed to the candles made with animal fat producing smoke and stink, these long-burning and smoke free candles emmitted a sweet honey-like odor. An expensive means of illumination, they were out of reach of common men and graced only the palaces of rich and aristocrats.
In their traditional form, the bees wax candles appeared in a six-sided honeycomb pattern with a coarse surface. The modern candle making tools offer them a smooth get up. Today, beeswax candles are available as votives or tapers, or in forms of aromatherapy candles.
These non-toxic, organic candles have some unique features.
With the highest melting point among the popular wax, beeswax candles have a considerably longer burn time than those of paraffin based candles. As a matter of fact, solid beeswax candles burn longer than those of the rolled beeswax candles.
Another unique feature of these candles are that they are almost dripless without wax deposits piling around them. So with a beeswax candle you do not have to bother about cleaning the huge wax deposit every time you burn a candle. However, strong blow of wind sometimes leads to the dripping from your beeswax candles, so place the candle in a place away from the draft.
The beeswax candles radiate an ethereal glow which you cannot find in any other type of candles. The flame in these candles is brighter and the field of illumination is also greater than the paraffin based candles. At the time of burning they produce negative ions that work for the purification of air. This result into better health and mood upliftment. The researches also suggest, the burning of beeswax candles stimulate the functioning of pituitary gland and encourages creativity.
Until the 20th century, beeswax candle was made by encircling a wick with layers of beeswax sheets. Since then many different dripping techniques and other innovations like use of silicone are employed to give the beeswax candles different shapes and looks. In any profile, with their cheery light and pure ambience the beeswax candles can make the special moments of your life really unforgettable.
