Au Naturale: Make Simple Beeswax Candles

Beeswax candles are loved for their many natural qualities. They are naturally scented with honey, beautiful, dripless, and longer burning than the more popular paraffin wax. These natural candles are also easy to make and to decorate.

To Make Simple Beeswax Candles

  • First get a wick that is about one inch longer than you want the candle to be.

  • Wrap the first roll of wax as tightly and evenly as possible around the wick, it is very important that this first roll is tight.

  • Then wrap the rest of the sheet of beeswax around it and finish by sealing the seam with your thumb until it is sealed completely.

IF your beeswax is dull in appearance, you can warm the surface gently with a hair dryer to rejuvinate the color. Make sure you do not melt the wax, though! And note that when beeswax gets extremely hot it does not boil, it bursts into dangerous flames, so always use caution when making and burning candles.

Decorating beeswax is easy since the surface is naturally tacky - simply press shapes of colored wax, beads, or other decorations gently into the wax. A beeswax candle can make a beautiful homemade gift, or a thing of nature to simply enjoy.
