Beeswax Candles are an All-Natural Means to Candle Enjoyment

You may have heard about the troubles with burning petroleum-based paraffin candles. Yes, it is true that when the wick is lit in a paraffin candle, there is some particulate matter in the air, which is the very air you and your family are breathing in. You know that black soot that covers the sides and tops of your glass jar candle? Some of that same particulate matter also makes it into your lungs. Do not give up on your love of candles just yet, though. Natural beeswax candles may well be the answer.

What are Beeswax Candles?

Beeswax candles are made from all-natural beeswax, so they burn cleaner than their paraffin cousins. This means that, unlike petroleum-based candles, these candles can be burned in nearly every setting without having to worry about breathing in particulate matter from the black soot. It is important, though, to be aware of the reputation of the company from which you are getting your beeswax candles, because the regulations state that they only have to contain 51% beeswax to be called beeswax candles.

Another consideration when buying your beeswax candle, or really any candle, is the wick. The reason you want to know what kind of wick your candle contains is that some wicks have lead in them. This means that if you are burning a petroleum-based candle with a lead-containing wick, then you are not only breathing in the particulate matter from the wax, but also that from the wick itself. The best wick for any candle is cotton. This is because cotton is all-natural and will burn cleanly without adding pollutants to your home.

Most, if not all, credible all-natural candle manufacturers will ensure that your beeswax candle is more than 51% beeswax, and that it will contain an all-natural cotton wick. It is important to note, however, that all beeswax candles are blended with another type of wax to give them stability. However, credible natural candle makers will use as many natural products as possible so that they can guarantee their customers an all-natural product.

Beeswax candles are a wonderful alternative to the black soot and particulate matter that most often accompanies petroleum-based paraffin candles. The smell is comparable to the higher quality paraffin candles, but the cost of a good beeswax candle is often a little higher. However, if clean air with the wonderful aroma of blueberries is what you are searching for, then invest in beeswax candles and enjoy their charm without any worry.
