Try Bees Wax for Healthier, Natural Burning
In a recent newsletter, Dr. Weil, known internationally for his wisdom in combining natural and modern medicines and health tips, stated that burning bees wax candles may be the healthiest way to go.
He touted bees wax because these candles are naturally lightly scented with honey, so they produce less soot than other scented candles. They are also a healthier alternative to the traditional paraffin wax, which in some forms has been shown in studies to release carcinogens.
If you want to make these natural candles, first get a wick that is about one inch longer than you want the candle to be. Wrap the first roll of wax as tightly and evenly as possible around the wick, it is very important that this first roll is tight. Then wrap the rest of the sheet of bees wax around it and finish by sealing the seam with your thumb until it is sealed completely.
IF your bees wax is dull in appearance, you can warm the surface gently with a hair dryer to rejuvinate the color.
Make sure you do not melt the wax, though! ** Note that when bees wax gets extremely hot it does not boil, it bursts into dangerous flames, so always use caution when making and burning candles.
Decorating bees wax is easy since the surface is naturally tacky - simply press shapes of colored wax, beads, or other decorations gently into the wax. These can make beautiful homemade gifts, or a thing of nature to simply enjoy.
